Gum Disease Cure

By ememichael at 2010-08-04 02:42:40
Gum disease is caused by plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that constantly forms on the teeth. Gum disease is also known as periodontal (pronounced: per-ee-oh-don-tul) disease. Gum Disease is an infection in the gums surrounding the teeth.

Gum diseases are classified according to the severity of the disease. The two major stages are gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is a milder and reversible form of gum disease that only affects the gums. Gingivitis may lead to more serious destructive forms of gum disease called periodontitis.

Gum Disease Treatment

TREATMENT The type of treatment you require depends on how advanced your particular case is. Treatments to alleviate the effects of gum disease depend on the severity of the tooth and gum erosion. Treatment involves full diagnosis & assessment which includes taking numerous measurements of the degree of bone loss, both clinically and by the use of xrays. Treatment of early gum disease involves oral hygiene and removal of bacterial plaque.

Folic acid is also a nutritional cure for gum disease. Folic acid when taken in a form of a capsule can be very effective. Rinsing the mouth with a folic acid solution can also reduce the bleeding and inflammation of the gums. On the other hand, folic acid in capsule form has no effect on pregnant women who have gum disease. Only the mouthwash solution is effective on pregnant women.

Gum disease and Prevention Tips

1. Brush twice a day for at least 3 minutes each time (about the length of your favorite song), and floss daily.

2. Always brush with a toothpaste that contains fluoride; some dentists also recommend daily mouth rinses containing fluoride.

3. Use a toothbrush with soft, polished bristles, as these are less likely to irritate or injure gum tissue.

4. Eat a healthy diet. Avoid snacks and junk foods packed with sugar that plaque-causing bacteria love to feed on.

Also one of the best natural gum disease remedies known today is tea tree oil gel. Tea tree oil gel is proven to be effective against severe chronic gingivitis (a mild form of gum disease). Tea tree oil gel is effective in reducing the degree of gum bleeding and gingivitis. Cranberry juice is also one of the natural gum disease remedies. Cranberry juice prevents the bacteria from sticking to the teeth, thus, reducing the build up of plaque.

Gum disease is a wide spread but silent problem. Many people do not understand the seriousness of this issue until their smiles become less attractive and their gums have receded. If that doesn't draw a person's attention to the situation, loose and lost teeth will.

There are many different treatment methods for this illness as well. Depending on what first causes gum disease, treatments will be different. There are certain vitamins that can be taken to treat gum disease, such as zinc, copper, vitamin E, vitamin A and folic acid, which are all important for a healthy mouth and gum line. One alternative treatment for gingivitis is to drink warm water with lemon every day.

Bacteria infecting the gingiva or gum tissue cause gum disease. The constant assault upon your gum tissue can even harm the bone structure underneath. That bone structure is what supports the gums and teeth. As a result the teeth can become loose and even fall out.

The 'silent epidemic' called gum disease rages on around the world just as it has for centuries. It is has been on a never-ending rampage for thousands of years. "So What", You might think? Considering that gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss, someone with it is probably going to care sooner or later.
