Dandruff Treatment

Dandruff is a more common problem in America than people realize. While not a serious condition, it can be an indicator of a more serious problem but oftentimes it's just embarrassing to have to deal with and can cause men or women to shy away or in certain social situations or even determines what sort of close which they choose to wear.

home made remedies -

1- Rub onion onto scalp. Onions are high in sulphur, which is essential for a healthy scalp.

2- Avoid dyeing hair, unless an absolute must. We all have bacteria on our scalp, some of which are beneficial. This 'good' bacteria prevent dandruff yeast, and hair dyes reduce their numbers.



3-Garlic whether eaten or applied externally is excellent for fighting dandruff.



4- Apple cider vinegar (diluted with equal amount of water) when massaged onto scalp helps curb dandruff. It is a natural antiseptic.



5-Lemon juice or sour curd when applied onto scalp is also useful.



Dandruff Treatment Tips



1. Washing hair with rubbing alcohol gets rid of the dandruff and leaves hair feeling soft and clean.



2. Head & Shoulders anti-dandruff shampoo containing active ingredient Zinc pyrithione.



3. Nizoral Shampoo anti-fungal/anti-dandruff shampoo containing active ingredient Ketoconazole.



4. Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca Oil) have been reported as useful in the treatment of dandruff.



Internal causes of dandruff include hormonal imbalances. In some women, dandruff occurs during the period of menstruation because of some hormonal imbalances in the body which cause the scalp to produce more oil. Poor hygiene, lack of rest and emotional stress are also known internal factors of dandruff. On the other hand, external factors like excessive use of gel and hair products, infrequent shampooing and rinsing of the scalp and hair, cold weather and dry indoor heating and stress may also be the causes of dandruff.



Causes



The various contributing factors in the cause of dandruff are:



· Impairment of general health



· Poor nutrition



· Deficiency of zinc



· Fungus (malassezia furfur)



Common symptoms of dandruff include white, oily-looking flakes of dead skin in your hair and on your shoulders and an itchy, scaling scalp. Dandruff is not an organism like lice. Dandruff mostly occurs after puberty, usually between the ages of 20 and 30, and affects males more than females. 50% of adults are affected by dandruff at some time or the other in their lives.



Get rid of dandruff



1. Hair gels and other hair products can irritate the scalp in some people.



2. Do not scratch your scalp. dandruff sufferers who scratch, using an electron microscope that magnifies 400 times.



3. Avoid dyeing your hair (unless you absolutely must).



4. Massage some of the liquid onto your scalp three times a week. Do not rinse it out.



Diet is another very important cause of dandruff. People who consume less foods containing essential minerals and vitamins have weaker immune systems than others. Therefore, their skin cells are also weak and may cause dandruff and other skin problems. Lastly, mental stress can be a very powerful cause of such skin problems. It is believed that stress can weaken a persons body functioning which leads to such problems.



The other recommended cure dandruff is lime juice. Take two tablespoons of fresh lime juice and use it for the last rinse while washing the hair to get rid of dandruff. Regular use of lime juice not only removes dandruff but also makes the hair look shiny and non sticky.



In the social and business arena, having dandruff can be a real detriment to your career and social life. It can be downright embarrassing. There are lots of over the counter remedies for dandruff, if you don't mind putting chemicals on your scalp. Since the skin absorbs substances into itself and the warm water opens the pores of the skin, you can be doubly sure that whatever touches your skin will be absorbed. The final consideration is your diet. Did you know that some people are more prone to yeast and other skin infections and irritations? They seem to have an over-sensitivity to carbohydrates, particularly sugars, wheat and any foods containing wheat. In the presence of these foods, the body produces sugars which feed Candida and other yeasts. The scalp is an ideal haven for yeasts to proliferate. The skin becomes irritated and itchy, producing flakes that cascade down onto the shoulders and the back.
