Dehydration Causes

By ememichael at 2010-07-15 01:43:11
Dehydration in humans, even mild dehydration, has been increasingly seen as causing or worsening various conditions, from asthma to heart disease, hypertension to infections and many more.

Dehydration is very fatal which can lead to many serious conditions. It is caused mainly due to loss or lack of fluids in your body. The loss of fluid can be caused by a change of diet, foot intolerance, viral infections, or food poising. Diarrhea or vomiting can make it worse as you are expelling necessary fluids from your body.

When evaluating and reviewing food dehydrators, the below product features and functionality should be considered and compared across different units and brands. One way to compare different brands of food dehydrators, that contain similar features, is to evaluate the food dehydrators on a price per square foot of drying area (total price divided by total drying area) while also considering the brand, reputation and product reviews of the dehydrator units that are being considered.

Dehydration is a medical condition in which a body contains insufficient amounts of water for normal functioning. It is a dangerous symptom, one that can become life threatening if not alleviated. A good indicator of dehydration is lack of urination.

Dehydration is typically caused by:

* Vomiting

* Diarrhea

* Fever

* Not enough intake of food or water

* Overexposure to heat

Not just a hot-weather issue, dehydration is a condition that occurs when a person loses more fluids than he or she takes in. It will last until fluid and electrolyte reserves have been restored. Lack of moisture may also result from illness; prolonged exposure to sun or high temperatures; not drinking enough water; and overuse of diuretics or other medications that increase urination.

Dehydration Symptoms

Dehydration symptoms may include headaches, muscle cramps, visual impairment and lowered blood pressure or hypotension. Even dizziness and fainting can be dehydration symptoms and in extreme cases delirium and unconsciousness have been known to become present. Of course, dehydration that isn't addressed can eventually cause death.

Alcohol and caffeine may also lead to dehydration, both of which cause water as well as vital nutrients and salts to be flushed from the system. Moderation is key. The natural balance of fluids in the body is essential for normal heart function and temperature-regulation.

The substances needed by the body are dissolved in water. Those substances include glucose, amino acids, and minerals, among others. Chemical reactions take place in the water in the body. These reactions maintain acidity in the body.

Water in the body maintains body temperature. If the body temperature increases sweat is produced. As it evaporates, the body cools.

Dehydration can occur during exercise when the amount of fluid lost through sweating is greater than fluid replacement through drinking. Drink one cup of water before and after activity-more in hot and humid weather. Drink before workouts and make sure you have access to fluids if exercising longer than 30 minutes.

Food dehydrators are among the most useful kitchen appliances you can own for many reasons. The foods which food dehydrators can process range from a wide variety of delicious fruits, vegetables and meats. They can be bought in varying sizes and capabilities, according to the kind of food a dehydrator is designed to dry. A food dehydrator works by gently heating the air, then blowing it over and around the food drying area. It can take hours and even days to sufficiently dry pieces of food to preserve them, depending on the foods' juiciness.

Diarrhea remains to be one of the most common diseases that leads to dehydration in children. When a child is having too many bowel movements and is vomiting several times then efforts should be made on a constant basis to replace the fluids in the body. Electrolyte solution is the best thing to give a child when dehydrated. It replaces the fluids in the body at a fast rate and keeps the balance stable.

Symptoms of a dehydrated skin include excess oil production throughout the day; usually two to three hours after cleansing. This occurs due to the fact that the skin is in need of water and will then compensate by producing excess oil. Skin consists of 70% water, should skin dehydrate, it will appear sallow, dull and oily. Texture tends to be coarse and skin is rather thick with deep wrinkles and has a rubbery feel to it.

Dehydration causes tiredness, but a glass of water revitalizes the body. When you feel thirsty, it indicates that you are already dehydrated and need a refill. Dehydration can lead to muscle weakness, dizziness and lethargy. Dehydration Studies show that just 2% water loss affects mental functioning.
