Anxiety Symptoms

By ememichael at 2010-07-13 07:20:03
The anxiety is just too much to bear, so she skips the first day of class to avoid the possibility of having to introduce herself in class. Anxiety is your body's way of alerting you that some kind of action is needed in the face of a situation that is perceived to be threatening or dangerous.

Anxiety is something that many of us have to deal with regularly and to be perfectly honest, it was built into the human body in order to benefit us in a number of different ways. There may be times, however, when the anxiety that we are feeling overwhelms us to the extent that it can be considered anxiety attacks. When these attacks are happening to us, it may be hard to rationalize our way out of it and it may feel as if they are causing us physical harm. That is why you need to look for ways to overcome the anxiety and to cope with it successfully in order to lead a normal life.

Physical symptoms:

1.rapid or irregular heartbeat, feeling as if you are having a heart attack
2.stomach problems (gnawing feeling, nausea, diarrhea, irritated bowel syndrome)
3.breathing heavily, shortness of breath
4.difficulty in swallowing
5.sweating, or feeling cold and clammy
6.headaches, lightheadedness or dizziness
7. muscle tension and pains

One of the first things that you may want to try if you are having anxiety attacks regularly is supplementing your diet with vitamins and minerals. You would probably be surprised with the number of times that people are having anxiety attacks and it is a direct result of a deficiency. For example, vitamin B is something that many of us are deficient in, and it can cause severe anxiety attacks. A lack of this vitamin in the body also builds up homocysteine which can be very damaging to our physical and mental health. Make sure that you are supplementing regularly and you may just see that the anxiety attacks naturally dissipate.

Once the cause has been determined for the anxiety attacks, the doctor will attempt to make a diagnosis. However, if the fifth most common causes are not triggering the anxiety attacks then the doctor will look at these other possibilities:

· Hypoglycemia - can trigger anxiety attacks under certain medical conditions

· Thyroid disorders - can trigger anxiety attacks under certain medical conditions

· Sleep disorders - can trigger anxiety attacks under certain medical conditions

Anxiety attacks and panic attacks are easy to confuse with one another. Both are frightening mental and bodily onslaughts with debilitating effects, both cause the sufferer to lose control, and both are difficult to stop. However, if you're looking for ways to treat your illness on your own, it's important to be able to distinguish between the two types of attacks. Understanding the differences will make it easier to give yourself an accurate diagnosis.

Learning how to relax your body and release pent up tension which contributes to anxiety can be incredibly helpful in treating the root cause of anxiety disorders. Some good relaxation techniques for anxiety include:

1.Progressive muscle relaxation
2. Meditation
3.Relaxing music
4.Abdominal breathing

Anxiety is a fact of life. The only person that does not have anxiety is a dead person. Anxiety is probably the most basic of all emotions. Not only is it experienced by all humans, but anxiety responses have been found in all species of animals right down to the sea slug. Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. It helps one deal with a tense situation in the office, study harder for an exam, keep focused on an important speech.

A panic attack is more difficult to trace to an identifiable cause. Many long-time sufferers say things like, "It just comes out of the blue," or, "I just start to feel funny, and then it gets worse and worse." Perversely, once the attack has started, your main worry becomes fear that you're having an attack. Based on prior experience, you know what panic attacks are like, and the thought of having another one is terrifying. In other words, your fear turns in on itself. Then, your natural fight or flight response kicks in, which compounds the panic.

Doctors and caregivers don't know for sure what brings on an anxiety attack. But studies have shown that there are some health conditions and medications that might cause an anxiety attack. Anxiety attack triggers include withdrawing from alcohol or illegal drugs, a fear of having another anxiety attack, or heredity reasons.

Anxiety cures can come as traditional medicine prescribed by a doctor. Or anxiety cures can take the form of natural supplements.

Your doctor may suggest that you try cognitive therapy to help control your anxiety disorder. This type of therapy helps you learn to change the way you think in situations that cause you to feel anxiety, helping you to overcome your anxiety disorder.

Anxiety symptoms can manifest themselves both physically and psychologically. Anxiety disorders happen when our brain warns us about a perceived danger that is about to occur. In this situation your body will ready itself for a fight or flight reaction. Your heart, lungs and other parts of your body will work faster and produce stress hormones and adrenaline to cope with that time period.
