Rosacea Treatment

By ememichael at 2010-07-05 02:13:47
Rosacea is a skin condition that causes a persistent redness on the face, in particular on the cheeks, nose and forehead. The condition is estimated to affect 45 million people worldwide and affects mostly fair-skinned people between the ages of 20 and 50. Rosacea becomes progressively worse over time if it is left untreated.

What is Rosacea? Rosacea is one of the most common inflammatory conditions of the skin of the face. Once it afflicts you, your face will take on a characteristic redness that looks like a permanent flush or blush. Soon after, pimples and thin red lines will likewise develop. This condition is sometimes referred to as acne rosacea but this can be terribly misleading since acne and rosacea are two different conditions.

Thank goodness treatments have improved since my student years. Early identification of the disease is the key to successful treatment, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. See a dermatologist right away if you think you have rosacea. While there is no cure for rosacea, it can be controlled, and even advanced cases improve with proper treatment.

Rosacea is a common disease that affects an individual's skin and very often the eyes also. Some of the effects it has include redness in the skin in addition to swelling and pimples. This disease is more commonly seen on the face but can sometimes also be soon on other parts of the body including the scalp, chest, back, neck and ears. In some people, Rosacea also affects the eyes. Rosacea is typically more common in people who have lighter skin, blonde hair and blue eyes as well as those individuals around 30 to 50 years of age. Although a lot of research has been done, what causes rosacea is not known but it is thought to be hereditary.

The best treatment for rosacea is to catch the condition early on , but many people leave it too late as they don't even know that they have the disease. So it is fundamental that you know signs and common symptoms for it.

It has been generally noticed that the people with fair skin are the most vulnerable section with reference to rosacea. Therefore, rosacea does have a hereditary strain. Those having a descent from the Celtic or the fair-skinned European stocks are genetically inclined to suffer from rosacea.

Rosacea is an all-too-common skin ailment which affects more adults of middle years than those of other age groups. Women and people with fair skin are more likely to suffer from rosacea. Men who do endure rosacea flare-ups often find that their symptoms are more severe than those that women tend to experience.

Frst signs of rosacea are said to be persisting redness due to exercise, changes in temperature, and cleansing. It's also a misconception that this red-faced condition is caused by drinking alcoholic beverages. It usually starts between age 30 and 60. Rosacea may be aggravated by facial creams or oils, and especially by topical steroids. Rosacea can affect all segments of the population, particularly those with fair skin who tend to flush or blush easily.

Types of Rosacea:

1. Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea
2. Phymatous rosacea
3. Papulopustular rosacea
4. Ocular rosacea

Rosacea affects both the males and the females and usually begins after the age 30. The condition is aggravated by several lifestyle and environmental factors such as eating hot, spicy foods, drinking alcohol and/or caffeine, exposure to the sun, rain, or wind, temperature changes and stress. Some medications such as ACE inhibitors are also linked with the development of the disease.

Rosacea can cause disease to the tissues, so it does make sense to take a closer look at jojoba oil as a treatment for rosacea, as it is an anti-inflammatory, antibiotic product, and will do no harm to the damaged tissues.

Rosacea laser treatments first were used in the 1980's, and newer and gentler technologies were developed in the 1990's. These have shown some promise in treating some of the more severe rosacea symptoms like red bumps, spider veins, thickened skin, and permanently reddened skin.

Treatment of Rosacea

The treatment of Rosacea can be varied depending upon the severeness of the symptoms and types of this disease. Subtype-directed approach is recommended by some dermatologists to fight against the symptoms of this disease effectively. One should use mild skin cleansing regimen for reducing the severity of the symptoms of this disease. Besides that, one should avoid direct sun light. Application of some sunscreen lotions can help a patient to get relieved from the feeling of irritation. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are two most important ingredients of a perfect sunscreen lotion. If one wants to get relieve from inflammation, redness or papules, some topical antibiotics and oral tetracycline can be applied. Minocycline, doxycycline and tetracycline are some of the common Oral tetracycline antibiotics that can be applied to fight against this disease. Skinoren and Finacea are some of the widely known Topical azelaic acid that can effectively bring down inflammation of papules and bumps.

Treatment options include medications, surgery and avoidance of known triggers such as alcohol. Treatment and control of rosacea is easy, fast and very inexpensive when the cause is understood as the proper management of your symptoms can be utilized. The management of rosacea is easier and more effective the quicker that the proper treatment is started. Treatment may cause a patient to return to an earlier stage. Progression to the late stage is not inevitable.

If your skin is too sensitive for some of the rosacea medications out there, consider using some natural and home remedies for rosacea. One of the most popular and most effective rosacea home remedies is apple cider vinegar. Dilute with water. dab on your face and let it dry. Some people also take the apple cider vinegar internally, in amounts from one to three tablespoons several times a day.
